WHICH WAS BETTER FOR THE COMMUNITY? VIGAN AS A CITY OR A MUNICIPALITY
Vigan city was established in the 16th century, it was the best preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town here in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines, from the country of China and Europe which results in a culture and townscape that have no parallel anywhere in East and South-East Asia. Vigan has a exceptional beauty that attracts the eye of incoming visitors from the whole world. Inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1999, Vigan has been recognized as a model of best practices in World Heritage site management, at the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. The distinction will be officially announced and a certificate presented to the Mayor of Vigan, Ms. Eva Marie S. Medina, during the closing event of the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention in Kyoto, Japan, on 8 November.
Vigan as a municipality was great because the local government was given authority to govern a specific geographic area. This can include cities, towns, villages, and boroughs. They are capable to enact local laws, regulations, and policies. They often provide services like policing, fire protection, and public works that can ensure a safe interaction in the community without the risks of danger.
The sudden change created new hope and opportunities in the City of Vigan, it won't be possible unless everyone participates in renovating what we had. Change is prominent to all of us, there will always be possible effects if we were to change our course of action in doing good.
